Michaela was born and raised in Tokyo and Hamburg. She studied journalistic writing and has worked for youth magazines as an author and is currently working as a freelancer for the Japanese newspaper the Yomiuri Shimbun. She has produced several  documentary- films for German television WDR and ARTE.

Her specialization themes are politics, international relationships, society, culture.
